EIP Prathom 2 students have been been crafting fractions with modeling clay. First students needed to have an understanding of two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, and have now moved on to making fractions.
They use their hands to shape the clay, and their rulers to cut equal pieces of a whole form fractions as accurately as possible. Then, they used fine motor skills to take away the parts of the fraction. Some students made very interesting shapes!
By far, their favorite way to learn about fractions is by imagining they are getting a slice of warm, cheesy pizza!
