December and January have become famous at BCC for seeing the annual Mathayom 6 football tournament. All classes in the year are split into two groups with the top two advancing to the semi final stage.
Our team this year was led by future golfing superstar Kittiporn Javanapong who had organized his team and been assisting Coach Paul in preparing the squad ahead of the tournament.
Our opening game saw us draw 2-2 with Voradorn Withayapool scoring a wonder goal to rescue the game. After that we were desperately unfortunate to lose 2-1 despite dominating the game from start to finish. The last game before the Christmas break saw us win comfortably 2-0 to leave us with a chance of still making the semi finals.
The fixture list proved to be extremely unfavorable to our team this year as our last two games were against the top two teams in the whole tournament (both would later contest the final). We were effectively eliminated after suffered a 5-0 defeat to the ‘sports class’ who had several Thai youth internationals in their team, one player had recently signed to play professionally in the Thai Premier League, so there is no shame in losing in this way.
Bizarrely though the sports team would not finish the tournament as eventual champions as class 67 would win it all after nearly being eliminated in the last group game by ourselves. It took a goal scored with the last kick of the game as we were pushing to find a winner ourselves for 67 to steal a 1-0 victory over us and advance to the knockout stage.
Even though results didn’t go our way this year the tournament has proven to be a great experience for the students who committed a lot of their time and energy to the competition.
Well done to all our players for their hard work and congratulations to class 67 for being crowned champions.
